iQ Makes Analog to Digital Transition Easy

Entercom Milwaukee's Chris Tarr Passes the iQ Test

Chris Tarr

Through two tours of duty with Entercom Milwaukee, a stint at Radio Milwaukee sandwiched in between, and his occasional appearances on This Week in Radio Tech, Broadcast Engineer Chris Tarr is no stranger to the industry. Taking on any challenge a broadcast facility may present, Chris is a master at solving problems quickly.

A recent project included the installation of an iQ console at a previously all-analog plant. A self-proclaimed "old school analog guy" himself, Chris can't help but sing the praises of Axia, noting how easy it is to learn for those still new to AoIP, and the added value of the Axia line.

In this interview, find out why AoIP is a new paradigm for radio, from the man known as the “Ninjaneer.”

Before streaming audio and podcasting, narrowcasting to a specific audience was done on FM through the use of subcarriers transmitting separate audio channels along with the primary audio. Subcarrier channels were not receivable with a regular radio, and required special receivers, such as the McMartin TR-66 described here.
