Frank Foti Describes the Birth of a Flamethrower

ESB

The Master FM Antenna System at New York City's Empire State Building was the first master system in the U.S. Designed by Andrew Alford, it began operation in 1965 as something of a marvel of broadcast communications technology.

Perched near the top of the ESB, the system served many years as the master antenna for a dozen New York FMs, and still serves today, albeit in a backup role. In coordination with the recent International AES Convention in Manhattan, a reception was held in recognition of the system's half century of service to Big Apple broadcasters.

Learn the history of this fascinating piece of broadcast tech from Telos Alliance CEO Frank Foti.
